Debt collection agency, or someone working for them or who has worked for them enough that when you google the phone number, the third result is irscorp.ca. They wear quite a variety of different hats - Integrated Recovery Solutions, IRS, IRSC, Lawrence/Laurence Gold law office, Integrated bailiff, etc. Could be characterized as being comparable to the borg, in the sense that by having a variety of people call you from all over the country, using different corporate names or pseudonyms, using different scripts and tones of voice, they try to make it seem as though resistance is futile. When it may not even be your own debt, but that doesn't stop them from calling, perhaps in hopes that you will eventually throw the actual debtor under the bus, by giving up whatever scraps of information you may have about them. If it is someone who previously had your phone number, or a complete stranger with a similar name to your own, then of course you won't have any info about them. But debt collectors hope that who they are looking for, if it isn't you, is your similarly named relative, or a previous resident of your address, and hope that if they bug you for long enough you will give them all the info you have on that person in hopes of getting the collectors off your own back. But if it really is your own old debt that they are after, you may find that if you research "statute barred debt" law for your specific state or province legal jurisdiction, that: a) as long as it is "consumer debt" not some other type of debt; b) you don't again affirm, admit to owing that debt; c) then the debt may be statute barred, no longer collectible by means other than phone harrassment, past a certain number of years after that debt began. Number of years varies by jurisdiction.
