Received a call from a woman who said her name was Lauren and that she was calling about my student loan and that it was "getting discharged". She kept asking me multiple questions trying to get me to say "yes or ok". I did neither. I told her I didn't understand "getting discharged" she said that 1/2 of the loan would be taken away and all they had to do was get me set up. She asked for my e-mail so they could send me a verification code right now. I told her that I didn't have internet access so I would have to go to the library and I only do that once a month. Then she said, "You can't access it from your mo bile phone?" Very strong I believe Indian Accent. I told her no and she asked why I can't pull up my e-mail on my phone. I told her that I can't afford a fancy phone. Then she said ok, we can do this another way. "What is your date of birth?". I said No, if you are really with the department of education as you say and you have my loan information, then you already have all of my information. I then said I believe this is a scam. She replied, "No this is not a scam, this is completely legitimate with the department of education." She asked if I was still in school and if my loan was over $5,000.00. I told her that I have never been to college and that my loan was a parent loan. Then there was total silence for a few seconds. I could tell it was a call center with all the voices in the background until that very moment when there was absolutely nothing. So I'm sure she was being coached and put her phone on mute while someone else was telling her what to say. When she came back she said, "Yes, this is a parent loan, so we can proceed, ok?" I didn't respond. Then she asked if my child was still in school. I responded with a No. Then she asked if the loan was in my name or in my childs name. I responded with," It's in my name and your asking all of these questions and I can tell you are calling from a call center so I believe this is a scam and your not even an American so Goodbye. Then I hung up. Kind of strange that I got this call like two hours after I spoke to someone with Nelnet regarding my student loan. Are there workers at Nelnet in kahoots with these scammers? Can't trust anybody these days. It's a shame.
